A tawashi originally comes from Japan and is a sponge used for rubbing and washing. This hand crocheted scouring pad has many uses in a clean kitchen. It makes burnt pans and pots shine again (without scratches) and is an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic brushes and foam sponges.

Origin:
Julia founded her label with a focus on functional everyday items made from regional, biodegradable raw materials. The products are handmade by women in Manenberg, a townsip in Cape Town. The women work from home. Payment is made in cash on site – this enables them to earn an income independent of their husbands. They also have health insurance through their work and pay into a small pension fund.
